What is included in the price:

  • An initial meeting, about 1-2 hours long, usually at the venue of the ceremony, to get to know you and what you want to achieve, gather enough information to be able to start writing the script, find out what you need help with, e.g. Parent promises or choosing poems. (A 50% deposit is invoiced at the first meeting to secure the booking and get work underway, the balance due 4wks before the ceremony)

  • I can write the full ceremony if required, or help you to write aspects such as the promises, that you’d like to pen yourself but perhaps you don’t feel all that confident. Ultimately you have to be happy with the script. I send you a draft script and we can tweak anything you wish, until you are completely satisfied with what is going to be said on the big day.

  • Planning the logistics and stage management of the different elements, to ensure an effortless and seamless ceremony.

  • Conducting the ceremony on the big day.

  • Naming Ceremony Certificate complimentary – certificate boxes are add ons, card box £5, silver plated tube £25.

  • And when the big day is over, the wonderful memories are there for all time, and your promises to your child/one another are for always. A crafted souvenir copy of your script will be posted to you after the ceremony, as a commemorative record of your special day.

Baby/Child Naming Ceremony

A baby or child naming ceremony can be a wonderful and significant event in a family’s life. An occasion that strengthens family bonds by having a big get together, and the time that you formally give your child their name, and your social community welcomes the child into the circle. But most important of all, the parents make their promises to the child in front of everyone gathered. Saying things out loud in front of others, somehow makes the words more real and have far greater effect than writing them down and everyone just reading it to themselves on their own. The nominated supporting adults also make pledges to be a part of the child’s upbringing. Parents can make pledges to each other, and indeed grand parents or whole congregations can join in with pledges to support the parents, as they work their way through the joys as well as the tough times in the life of a parent.

Below you will see Candle Lighting and Sand Ceremonies. These can very easily be incorporated into your naming ceremony and can hold great significance as you get to keep a physical reminder of the day and the promises made on it.

Adopted/Step Child/Children Welcome Celebration

This sort of ceremony is predominantly for families who have adopted a child/children or for a couple each with their own children, bringing them together as one family unit. This is a lovely opportunity for the children to be welcomed formally (although the ceremonies are quite informal) and can make them feel that a special day has been put on for them, and during the ceremony you can choose to make pledges to one another and the children can hear and understand how loved they are, and how supported they are going to be as life is changing around them, and perhaps that change is a little unsettling. Do get in touch if you would like to learn more about this type of ceremony.

New Name New Beginnings Celebration after gender transition

Predominantly an important ceremony for people who have just undergone gender transition and wish to mark or celebrate their new lease of life as it were. These ceremonies can hold great meaning, marking an exciting turning point in life’s pathway, and can be a celebration as much as a chance to perhaps thank and recognise those who have supported through such a life changing event.

Anything goes at this celebration and I can help create the ceremony that is just right for you.

Free Hospice Baby/Child Naming Ceremonies

I offer free naming ceremonies (and renewal of vows) for people staying in any of the Devon or Cornwall Hospices.

Do get in touch if this is something that you wish to discuss. Some cash towards travel would be gratefully accepted, but if you insisted on paying any sort of a fee, I would donate it to the Child Funeral Charity (Reg 1156387).

Candle Lighting Ceremonies

There are several different formats of candle lighting ceremonies befitting a naming ceremony. The thing I like about the candle lighting, as with the sand ceremonies, you have something tangible to take home to keep the warmth of that day alive and the candle can be lit on birthdays, the light that first shone on the naming day, shines again and again for years to come. If you wish to bring siblings or step children into the ceremony, you can light candles with multiple wicks.

Words are written for the ceremony and spoken as the candle is lit, to affirm the symbolic action being carried out.

Upwards of £10 depending on the candle

Sand Jar Ceremonies

This can be a really fun and inclusive part of a ceremony, especially when children or other important people are getting involved. There is added value here too, in that any promises made by children to be kind to one another etc, the sand jar they keep from the ceremony is a physical reminder of the special day, with their names, the date, and promises written on lovely labels attached.

Each person pouring a different coloured sand into the glass jar/s or bottle (or picture frame) symbolising a coming together or union, the coloured sands never easily separated ever again. Words are written and spoken whilst the sand is being poured, to affirm the symbolic action being carried out.

From £8 depending on the jar chosen.
